Hellas Verona have an extra reason to do well against Parma today, explained Coach Andrea Mandorlini.
There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off, while the team will wear black armbands and jerseys with a message embroidered on to mark the death of Vice-President Giovanni Martinelli this week.
“I had become basically a family member for Martinelli and he was a close friend,” said the tactician.
“It was a terrible blow to lose him, as we thought he could win this final battle with his illness. It was a tough and sad year, though he took strength from the team and we did the same from him.
“Now that he is gone, we will continue to play for Martinelli, just as we always have done.”
The game with Parma kicks off at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.
“Parma are an excellent side and their players have great quality, so we cannot underestimate this test.
“I can tell you that the team is working as hard as ever and the compliments have not gone to their heads. Rafael Marques will start in defence, as his moment has arrived.”
