The striker has not played since undergoing knee surgery in May, but is with the squad in its training retreat.

“I wish I could play tonight, but it will take a while for me to get back on to the field,” he told Milan Channel.

“I am here to be part of the team. It is a strange time for us, but the retreat went well and we will give our all. We can definitely do better.

“The players are fired up and want to put in a good performance. I envy my teammates, as I’d love to play. I can’t wait to get back on to the pitch as soon as possible, though I can’t give a precise date.

“We know Barcelona well in every sense. We always impressed on home turf, as playing like that is the only way that we can hurt them. We must stay united, compact and ready to go on the counter.”

There are reports Mario Balotelli will be benched this evening after a period of poor form.

“He’s a really good person, he just has too much pressure on him.”
