The veteran hitman is just one goal short of becoming his country’s most lethal forward given that he, like Gerd Muller, has 68 international goals.
Italy will play Germany in Milan on Friday, before taking on Nigeria at Craven Cottage on the following Monday.
Azzurri boss Cesare Prandelli will name his squad for those fixtures on Sunday.
