Giuseppe Rossi is at risk for Friday’s Italy-Germany friendly after medics confirmed he has tonsillitis.
The Fiorentina forward is current top scorer in Serie A with 11 goals in 12 games and has just returned to international duty after two years out with a knee injury.
“This afternoon he was rested,” explained Italy’s chief medic Professor Enrico Castellacci.
“Last night Rossi had a fever and is also suffering from a little bit of tonsillitis, but overall these are the classic flu symptoms that people can get in this period.
“We will wait and evaluate how he is feeling ahead of Friday’s game.”
Italy host Germany at San Siro for an international friendly on Friday evening, then play Nigeria at London’s Craven Cottage next Monday.
