Bologna star Alessandro Diamanti reveals the “only regret of my career was leaving” West Ham.

The 30-year-old trequartista has been through many clubs and spent the 2009-10 campaign with West Ham, scoring seven goals in 28 appearances.

He returned to Italy with Brescia and has been at Bologna since 2011, becoming a firm fan favourite and earning an international recall.

“I had a wonderful experience in the Premier League and would recommend it to anyone,” Diamanti told Calcio 2000 magazine.

“You get to work seriously and as a professional, but you are also free to live your own life. Perhaps the only regret of my career was leaving London. Going back, I don’t know if I’d do that again…”

He received offers from top clubs this summer, but opted to remain at Bologna.

“I certainly have no remorse, as I knew exactly what I was doing. I have bonded myself to Bologna for a long time and was well aware of the situation. I was happy and staying is what everyone wanted.”

Diamanti’s form for the Rossoblu has got him back into the Italy squad and he’s likely to be at the 2014 World Cup.

“We are going there to win, otherwise what’s the point? Italy must always target the ultimate goal.”
