Riccardo Montolivo wants to see the same Italy that beat Germany at Euro 2012. “We were like a single body.”

The Azzurri face the Germans again on Friday at San Siro in an international friendly, but the memories are still fresh from their 2-1 victory in the European Championship semi-final.

“I am half-German, so this is never a game like the others for me,” confessed the Milan midfielder in a Press conference.

“If I look back to the Euros, I can say more than a team we were a family, as we were like a single body. I hope we will be able to recreate that fantastic atmosphere at the World Cup, which is the most important thing within a team.

“We have quality and now Giuseppe Rossi is returning to his level too. We always believed in him and waited for his return.

“It’s not just Rossi and Mario Balotelli, but also the likes of Lorenzo Insigne, Dani Osvaldo and Alberto Gilardino, so we’re in good shape in attack.”

Montolivo was asked whether international duty provided a reassuring respite from the pressures of a Milan side in crisis.

“I wouldn’t say that, as it’s pretty relaxed at Milan, despite the initial difficulties. I am sure we’ll get back on our feet. Balotelli knows that in football there are positive and less positive moments, but he is not in any way stressed or upset.

“The real problem with him is that the media always try to make everything extreme, but I am not afraid of losing him.”
