Valter Birsa has affirmed that he is not getting carried away by recent praise at Milan, although he is happy for the extended run in the team.

The Slovenian, who signed in the summer, has proven a regular for the Rossoneri in recent weeks and has attracted praise for his recent form.

“I always hoped for the best, but I did not want to focus too much on it,” considered Birsa to Sport TV this week on his impact so far.

“I wanted to make a good impression, especially with hard work on the field. But I should not be happy only with that, I have to continue playing like this.

“I am not getting carried because of [the praise]. I am not under pressure because of it either, because I know how quickly things can change.

“But compliments are certainly a sign that I am on the right track.”

The 27-year-old was asked if his move to Milan in the summer was a surprise for Slovenian football.

“Indeed, but isn't a life full of surprises, positive and also negative ones? In my career, I have been involved in both one and the other.

“But the fact is that at Milan we are also playing football pure and simple, there is not that much difference than at other clubs, and to be here you have to work hard, as you do everywhere else.

“My run in the first team? At other clubs I had played a good game and then had been benched for the next match.

“Fortunately it has been different at Milan, my confidence has grown a lot and I have been able to show what I am capable of.

“I am training the same way as I did before I came to Milano. Some things [have improved] and because of that I feel good.

“Not much has changed though. I am still the same footballer, with the same work-rate. You always try to do your best, sometimes it goes right and sometimes not.”
