Philippe Mexes’ eye injury may have been caused by the Milan man’s use of a sunbed, reports Tuttosport.
The Frenchman pulled out of the 1-1 draw with Genoa on Saturday in the warm-up after complaining of pain in his left eye.
The stopper has been since diagnosed with central serous retinopathy and will rest until Friday when he will have further tests.
The newspaper suggests that the condition is caused by sun exposure or ultraviolet lights used to produce a cosmetic tan.
