Javier Zanetti could get his first start of the season against Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Sampdoria. “I know him very well.”
The Inter captain made his comeback from seven months out with a torn Achilles tendon as a substitute against Livorno.
There are reports he’ll be given a starting spot in place of Alvaro Pereira this afternoon. It kicks off at 14.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.
“I hope that will be the case,” the 40-year-old told Inter Channel.
“I don’t know what the Coach will decide, but I felt good after the Livorno game. Now I hope to continue being an alternative and to always give my contribution to the squad.”
Not only will this be the first Inter match with new President Erick Thohir in the stands, but it will also be against Zanetti’s former teammate.
“It will be a complicated and difficult match, as I know Sinisa very well. We must continue to improve and give a sense of consistency to our results.”
The atmosphere at San Siro is also likely to be charged, as before kick-off many former Inter players will parade around the pitch.
“We hope to make them all happy with a victory to round off the day. I played with many of them,” smiled Zanetti.
