It beat the proposal put forward by Reggiana President Alessandro Barilli and the local council by just €100,000.
It will take another 10 days for the situation to be ratified, as in that time another company can come in with an offer 10 per cent higher than the Mapei bid.
The stadium had been called the Città del Tricolore stadium, but was renamed after the Mapei owners.
“This auction proves the owners want to lay down roots in the territory and is part of a strategic project that began over the summer,” explained CEO of Sassuolo Calcio Giovanni Carnevali.
“Buying the Mapei Stadium can be considered an important result not just for Sassuolo, but also Reggiana and the city of Reggio Emilia.
“With the improvements this stadium has shown itself to be capable of fulfilling the needs of both clubs, host the Italy Under-21 side and other sporting events like the Trofeo TIM.
“The additional investments from Mapei will guarantee a structure at the vanguard that will continue to benefit sport and local economy.”
Not everyone is happy about the move, as it means Sassuolo will continue to not have a stadium in their own town.
They used Modena’s Stadio Braglia for their home games from 2008 to this summer, as the Stadio Enzo Ricci in Sassuolo only holds 4,008 people.
This is Sassuolo’s first ever campaign in Serie A.
