Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi will reportedly have to resume his battle with cancer.

The stopper underwent treatment in the summer after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

The Gazzetta dello Sport today writes that the illness has returned and he will now check in to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan.

Acerbi, 25, moved to the newly promoted club in the summer after spending last term at Milan and Chievo.

He was recently suspended from the game after he failed a routine doping test after the tie against Cagliari on December 1.

The player – who has made 13 League appearances this term – tested positive for gonadotropin, a hormone linked with testicular cancer.
