The Coach is due to be replaced by Edy Reja starting from Monday night’s Serie A game against Inter, click here for a match preview.
Negotiations to terminate the contract by mutual consent only really began on Friday afternoon between Petkovic and the club lawyers.
“We haven’t reached an agreement yet, but we will meet again tomorrow morning,” declared Lazio lawyer Gian Michele Gentile on Friday night.
President Claudio Lotito was not present at the talks and is not expected to be there today either, as he is furious with Petkovic for his decision to sign on as Switzerland manager from July.
Lazio tried to sue Petkovic for breach of contract, but the Coach responded he was well within his rights to sign a deal that starts only after his own contract with the club has expired.
Time is short, as the Biancocelesti must formally terminate Petkovic’s contract, sack him or register his resignation before they can officially let Reja sit on the bench against Inter.
