Sunderland manager Gus Poyet confirms he is interested in controversial Catania goalkeeper Mariano Andujar.
The Argentina international shot-stopper has spent the last few rounds on the bench of the Serie A bottom club after a row with fans over his performances.
“I like the style of South American goalkeepers and Andujar is a player that I like and know,” Poyet told the Daily Mirror.
Andujar has a fiery personality and the 30-year-old has been at Catania since July 2009, albeit with loan spells at Huracan and Estudiantes.
He was frozen out at Catania in January 2011 after a blazing row with the club chiefs, then returned in June 2012.
There were further problems, as Andujar received a three-match ban for punching Edgar Barreto in the stomach during a Sicilian Derby against Palermo.
His contract runs until June 2015.
