Edy Reja says his Lazio side has much more to show, as he evaluates what he is looking for from the players and perhaps the transfer market.

In his first game back in charge of the Biancocelesti after he replaced Vladimir Petkovic, the 68-year-old tactician got off to a winning start in front of the home fans.

“I wasn’t particularly satisfied with Monday’s performance, our squad can give more,” Reja told reporters.

“We have raised the rhythm, it takes patience and a bit of time. The result gives us serenity, tranquillity, now we have this tricky trip [away to Bologna], then Udinese, and then Juventus.

“We don’t have an easy schedule, we have to counter these teams as best we can, which are very good athletically.”

The Biancocelesti have had difficulty away from home so far this season, not winning a single game, and picking up just four points from a possible 27.

“I told the boys that we have to change gear, we won some matches on the road when I was here last, we struck fear into all of the other teams.

“We have to rediscover that conviction, I hope it can happen at Bologna.”

The Rossoblu go into the game with Lazio with a new Coach at the helm having instated Davide Ballardini as the successor to outgoing tactician Stefano Pioli.

“I’m sure there will be a bit of a reaction from [Bologna], they have players of the calibre of [Alessandro] Diamanti, who is dangerous at set-pieces and has often been decisive.

“I don’t know what [Davide] Ballardini will do, it seems as though he is intending on playing someone behind the two strikers.

“Our objective will be to know how to adapt and create problems for his team.”

Turning his attentions to the transfer window, the former Napoli tactician claimed that the Aquile could choose to move on the market in the coming weeks.

“The squad is competitive, what counts is to then see in the official games how the players behave.

“They will have to show me their value on the pitch. I’ve seen some great qualities, to play for Lazio you need to have personality.

“We are evaluating various opportunities, if there is the possibility we will make some moves. We will wait this week, also the game against Parma, then we will evaluate the situation.

“The will is that to bring in an important player, of substance.”

Napoli’s Paolo Cannavaro and Fabio Quagliarella of Juventus have been linked as possible January signings for the Aquile, and a loan move for out-of-sorts Milan striker Alessandro Matri has also been touted.

“Maybe, they are two excellent players. I trained [Paolo] Cannavaro at Napoli and I have always held him in high esteem, he was the real captain of the squad.

“They are both players I really rate. [Fabio] Quagliarella is a player of value, a second striker who also moves around the primary attacker.

“I also read about [Alessandro] Matri, these names all come out, it’s normal that it would be a pleasure to train them.”

Reja went on to give his opinion on the latest Calcioscommesse scandal, which has seen former Lazio midfielder Cristian Brocchi be investigated.

“It’s absurd, I lived in that moment and I absolutely don’t believe in it,” he stated.

“I can assure you that you can’t bring those games into discussion, they were all completely regulated.”
