Ancelotti: 'Balotelli not a top player'

Carlo Ancelotti comments on Italy ambitions and believes Mario Balotelli “is not a top player. He can leave you down to 10 men at any moment.”

Real Madrid Coach Ancelotti spoke to Spanish radio station RNE and discussed Italy’s World Cup prospects.

“At the moment Italy are just behind Spain, Brazil, Argentina and Germany. Cesare Prandelli is trying to bring down the age of the squad, but his strength remains in the great midfield experience of Andrea Pirlo, Daniele De Rossi and Thiago Motta.

“Italy’s real problem is in attack, where they do not have any top players. We are waiting for Balotelli, but Balotelli is simply not consistent.

“He is a great talent, but he can’t be relied upon and can leave you down to 10 men at any moment.”

It’s a damning statement, particularly as Ancelotti is one of the candidates to become Italy Coach in future.

“It could well be, but in my view being a national team Coach is the final job and for the moment I am happy working every day on the training field. I am not thinking of a national side right now, though I’d like to in future.

“Would I work in the Bundesliga? It is a great tournament, but I don’t want to learn another language!”
