Maxime Gonalons invites Napoli to make a new offer in June, while it’s reported the club is targeting Verona’s Jorginho instead.

The Partenopei had proposed €15m plus €2m in performance-related bonuses for Gonalons, but Lyon surprisingly turned it down after hinting that sum would be sufficient.

“I weighed up the pros and cons,” he commented. “When big clubs like Napoli are after you, it makes you ask yourself questions.

“The President closed the door despite a great offer. I have to accept it, as I don’t want to light a fire within the club. I’ll continue giving my all for Lyon until the end of the season, then we will see.

“The offer from Napoli was interesting and I did think about it. In truth, in football things can change from one day to the next. I’ll stay here, but will work hard to ensure new offers come in by June.”

Napoli have no intention of waiting and according to the Gazzetta dello Sport turned their focus towards Verona talent Jorginho instead.

The young Brazilian midfielder grew up in Italy and plays his international football for the Azzurrini.

It’s claimed he was more of a target for President Aurelio De Laurentiis than Rafa Benitez, but that now the Coach has given the all-clear.

He’ll be able to watch Jorginho in action this afternoon, as Napoli play against Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi.

Having turned 22 last month, Jorginho has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 17 Serie A games this season.
