Garcia: 'Nainggolan does it all'

Rudi Garcia hailed Radja Nainggolan for settling quickly into the Roma squad after their 4-0 victory over Genoa.

“This was the right response and the right performance, as we pressed Genoa in the first half and Alessandro Florenzi scored that great goal. We also saw the captain rediscover his form,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Nainggolan played his second match in a Giallorossi jersey after the Coppa Italia win over Sampdoria midweek.

“Radja had a fine game, but everyone did this afternoon. It’s easier to settle into a team like this when Kevin Strootman and Miralem Pjanic are playing at this level.

“Nainggolan knows how to do everything. He has technique, plays the long ball, can push forward and shoot for goal. Today his role was more about providing balance to the team. He’s incredible, as it’s as if he has been with us since the start of the season.

“Douglas Maicon gives everything on the field, he likes to defend and attack, but that is our style. Everyone has the opportunity to attack without losing the balance of the side.”

Juventus won the Scudetto last term and had 44 points at the midway stage, the same results that Roma have now, yet Garcia’s men are eight points adrift of the leaders.

“I wanted to see a team with the right attitude, I saw strong character from every player. The Roma record is 44 points after 19 rounds and we want to keep going.

“It is much better to have Juventus, Napoli and the other teams doing so well, as it makes everything more entertaining.”

Having already signed Belgium international Nainggolan from Cagliari, Garcia was asked whether Roma fans could expect any more January reinforcements.

“I am happy with my squad. We had to wait for a few things, now we know Mattia Destro is back and Francesco Totti has rediscovered his fitness levels, so we must wait to see how Federico Balzaretti is doing. Without injuries, we are a strong side and today had Daniele De Rossi, Leandro Castan and Adem Ljajic suspended.”
