Parma head Coach Roberto Donadoni has insisted that the Coppa Italia remains high on his side’s priority list.

The Tardini outfit are on an eight game unbeaten run in Serie A, which has lifted them to eighth place in the table, just six points shy of a Europa League place.

Even so, the midweek Cup action has been welcomed by their tactician.

“It’s a competition we hold in high regard,” Donadoni has told Radio Onda Cero ahead of Tuesday night’s Round of 16 first leg away to Lazio.

“It is going to cost us as we’re playing again only three days after our last game, but we want to honour this game as best as we can and improve both our performance and our morale further.

“The Cup is also a way into Europe so that provides a further incentive to us.”

The experienced tactician will, however, be making changes for the game at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I will be making changes depending on the physical condition of the players. After evaluating everyone I will decide who will play and who needs a rest.”

Antonio Cassano is a doubt for the match but Donadoni did not rule out his chances of making a return to the side come kick-off.

“It’s fair that he comes back in, he’s a player we rely on. But we will see.”

Donadoni is pleased with the progress made by his Gialloblu charges so far this season but regrets that his side do not have a few more points than the 26 they have collected thus far.

“[The recent run of form] is undoubtedly pleasing. Even though it would be fairer if we had three or four more points than we do at the moment. What’s done is done though.

“The table reflects what we have done so far on our journey this season and now we move forward looking to improve on that.”
