Livorno director Stefano Capozucca confirmed the club “turned down Sassuolo’s offer for Paulinho.”

The 28-year-old Brazilian has scored six goals in 18 Serie A appearances this season and is an Amaranto mainstay, owned by the club since 2005.

“The negotiations started and were promptly terminated. We will not be continuing them,” director of sport Capozucca told Calcionews24.com.

“Sassuolo formulated a good offer for Paulinho, but the President has taken him off the market.”

This week Livorno sacked Coach Davide Nicola to promote technical director Attilio Perotti to the bench, so today against Roma will be his first Serie A match in 10 years.

“We are evaluating the different options that the market gives us. Many clubs know that we are looking for a full-back and Paolo Castellini is one of the names we’re considering.”

Other alternatives are believed to include Parma’s Djamel Mesbah and Achraf Lazaar of Varese.
