Beppe Marotta denied Fabio Quagliarella has been frozen out of the Juventus squad. “He just has flu.”

Sky Sport Italia claimed this evening the striker was effectively no longer part of the team, as he was told he’d be training at different times to his teammates.

“It is not true,” general manager Marotta told news agency ANSA.

“He trained in the gym because he has flu and will return to training with the group as soon as possible.

“We never considered freezing him out because there is absolutely no reason to do so.”

The rumours came after Juve surprisingly dropped Quagliarella from the UEFA squad for the Europa League.

Nonetheless, reports continue to suggest Quagliarella won’t finish the season in Turin, as he could join Marcello Lippi at Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande.

The Chinese transfer market is still open, so Italian clubs could sell to them at any point.

As they are also out of the Coppa Italia, there will be very few opportunities for the forward to play this season.

The situation is certainly tense, as agent Beppe Bozzo said the player is “quietly angry and deserves more respect.”

Marotta responded to those comments too. “I don’t believe agents and the entourage of a player have the right to comment on technical choices or those of a club, so I consider Bozzo’s comments to be out of place.

“Quagliarella is our player and has always been appreciated for his work and contribution to the team.

“The rules of international competition mean we are forced into choices that may well be unfortunate, but forced upon us.

“His absence from the UEFA list should not be considered a lack of respect, because it really wasn’t, and that is proved by the fact the player was warned of the situation beforehand.”
