Rolando Maran said Catania’s season “starts here” after crushing Lazio 3-1. “Everyone said we were done for.”
The Elefantini were bottom of the Serie A table and the Biancocelesti unbeaten in the League in 2014, but that was certainly not clear from today’s performance.
“The last few performances had shown good quality and we went so close to the victory, for example with several chances at Parma. Our season starts here,” Coach Maran told Sky Sport Italia.
“We knew that we’d need a huge achievement to get a result and we did it. I have to compliment my lads.
“We’re out of the relegation zone for a few hours at least and it is our fourth game unbeaten, despite missing some key players.
“Everyone said we were done for, so at the same time it is now premature to talk about safety being within our grasp.
“I knew this squad had what it takes to stay in Serie A, but there’s a long way to go yet.”
