Luciano Spalletti has offered his support to Cristian Chivu, as the Inter defender prepares for yet another operation on his foot.
The Romanian has struggled with a recurring ligament injury in recent seasons and, having barely played for the Nerazzurri, is widely speculated to be retiring at the end of the season.
This week the 33-year-old is set to undergo a third operation on his foot and has received a tribute from his former Coach at Roma.
“Chivu is a great man as much as he is a great player,” Spalletti has commented to reporters of his former defender.
“With me, we understood each other immediately and he put himself at my disposal, thanks to his ability to play multiple roles.
“His best characteristic, however, was to be open-minded and try to lend a hand to anyone who asked him for help.
“He is a great man and the results I obtained in Rome I owe some thanks to the value of Chivu.”
