Pepe Reina has reiterated that whilst he is happy at Napoli, his future beyond the summer remains uncertain.
The Spaniard is midway through a season-long loan at the San Paolo from Liverpool, whilst he has been continually linked with a move to former club Barcelona come the end of the season.
“Until the end of the season I will be here, but even I do not yet know what will happen next,” Reina has mused to N+ this week.
“There is still time to go, whilst I must return with strength to Liverpool, although it is unlikely I will stay.
“Is there a clause? My contract has specific conditions, but there is a great future ahead of Rafael.
“Could I stay with Napoli? I am happy here and my family is alright.
“The most important figure for my arrival was Benitez, he convinced me to accept this ambitious project with a great team.
“There was also the desire to get to know a different league. The first step was taken by Liverpool, who did not want me because they had put their confidence in a younger goalkeeper.
“What’s the difference between this team and Benitez’s Liverpool? Now he has become more complete with the experiences at Chelsea and at Inter.
“Even in negative ones you can develop, perhaps it is that from Inter he learned more.”
Napoli are currently third in Serie A and eyeing Champions League qualification, are set for the Europa League this week and are into the Coppa Italia Final.
“We have to move forward game by game, fighting on all fronts. Roma and Juve will not let up, but right now we are thinking about Europe.
“The 13 points to Juventus are many, but we have to think about doing well, regardless of them. It is difficult to see them going wrong for the performance they have managed so far, but first and foremost we must do the impossible ourselves.”
Reina was asked about the differences between Serie A and the Premier League.
“It’s the changes in rhythm. Every game over there is more fun, there are always so many scoring chances.
“Here, however, particularly in the second half of the season, the teams close up in defence.”
