Daniele Bonera insisted Milan “could not have done more” after their 1-0 home defeat to Atletico Madrid.
The Rossoneri hit the woodwork twice and had penalty appeals in the Champions League Round of 16 tie, but were beaten by a late Diego Costa header from a corner.
“We could not have done more,” defender Bonera told Mediaset Premium.
“We deserved to take the lead, but were penalised by a set play. In the first half we pushed really hard and were in good shape.
“It’s true we need to grow in terms of overall performance, but tonight the team did everything possible to win this game.”
