Gasp: 'Genoa can upset Napoli'

Gian Piero Gasperini tells Napoli that Genoa have every intention of “again proving we can compete with the top clubs.”

They meet on Monday at 20.00 GMT at the Stadio San Paolo, click here for a match preview.

“Napoli are at the top table of Serie A, a team with clearly defined characteristics and clear quality,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“At times Napoli play in attack with such pace and technique that they are difficult to control. They pin you back with their pressing, but we certainly do not plan to just go there and defend ourselves.

“This is an opportunity, after our results against Inter and Fiorentina, to again prove we can compete with the top clubs. We’ve picked up points in some tough arenas before.”

When Gasperini replaced Fabio Liverani just a couple of months into the campaign, Genoa were fighting to escape relegation, but they could now target European places.

“We have to keep our feet on the ground, as it remains a difficult tournament and I don’t see any ‘easy’ teams to beat. Let’s not take our eyes off the real target here. Of course I can’t help but be satisfied with a squad that is concentrated, solid and always on point.

“Nobody gifted us points and we want to continue picking them up. We have improved as a team, which got the best out of the individuals, so I see us more confident on every level.”
