Serie B club Bari have announced plans to seek bankruptcy in order to avoid disappearing off the football map.
Once famous in the top flight with stars including David Platt and Antonio Cassano, AS Bari have been struggling to stay in Serie B for several years.
Today there was a Board meeting and a statement released confirming owners the Matarrese family cannot cover the existing debts.
It is “a situation of irreversible crisis” and administrators have been invited in to “safeguard the lustre and history of Bari Calcio for the city.”
Voluntary bankruptcy proceedings open the door for new owners to come in or even to begin a brand new club by buying up the title AS Bari.
