Alessandro Diamanti scored a brace on his official Guangzhou Evergrande debut, beating Melbourne Victory 4-2.
The former Bologna man was the star of the show in the Asian Champions League fixture, which saw Marcello Lippi’s trophy holders go 2-0 down at half-time.
Diamanti had a free kick cleared off the line, then got the equaliser for 2-2 and completed the brace in the final minutes.
“I want to thank the fans for supporting us during the first half, as they helped us to react after the break,” said the Italy international.
“I still need to work hard in order to help Lippi and the team do better. Our second half performance was good, but we’ve got a lot to do if we want to improve.”
