Mertens: Roma is a must win

Dries Mertens believes that Napoli can target ‘no alternative but the three points’ when they host Roma this weekend.

The San Paolo will play host on Sunday evening to this League encounter between the third placed Partenopei and second placed Giallorossi.

With six points splitting the teams at the moment, Mertens believes only a win for his side will do.

“We have no alternative but the three points,” Mertens has commented to Il Mattino today.

“We have to win this direct confrontation and then as many of the remaining games to the end of the season.

“Roma are not unreachable, but against Genoa and Livorno we dropped decisive points to catch up to them.”

The Belgian winger reflected also on his adaptation to life in Italy, following last summer’s move from PSV Eindhoven.

“This city is fantastic, here you can feel the history, the food is great, especially the pizza, and the people are very friendly with all of my family.

“This makes me happy, I would like to repay the affection of the fans, perhaps by bringing them some silverware.

“It was vital for me to have the opportunity to play in Italy and to try a different experience to the Dutch League.

“Now I feel more mature and even more complete thanks to Benitez. But I do not want to stop here, I want to reach the World Cup in perfect shape.”
