Kevin Strootman pledged to “come back stronger than before” after his season was ended by a knee injury.
The Roma midfielder tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will require further tests to ascertain damage to the meniscus.
He was stretchered off during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo and surgery will rule him out for the rest of the season as well as this summer’s World Cup with Holland.
“I’d like to thank everybody for the support,” wrote Strootman on Twitter.
“From here on out I’m focusing on my recovery. I’ll make sure I come back stronger than before. Forza Roma sempre.”
