He was stretchered off during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo and surgery will rule him out for the rest of the season as well as this summer’s World Cup with Holland.

“I’d like to thank everybody for the support,” wrote Strootman on Twitter.

“From here on out I’m focusing on my recovery. I’ll make sure I come back stronger than before. Forza Roma sempre.”
