Cesare Prandelli has called on the national team to be respected, as he confirms he is not planning a future at club level before the World Cup.

The CT is currently in talks with the Italian Football Federation over a new deal to extend his four year term in charge beyond this year’s World Cup in Brazil.

On from a three-day training run with some of La Nazionale’s prospects for the future, the 56-year-old has taken the opportunity to clarify his position, as well as point out one difference he hopes the FIGC can implement at national level, to mirror club football.

“When it is the national team, everyone feels entitled to say anything, whilst at a club that is not the case,” Prandelli has explained this week to Rai Sport.

“The federation has to become an important club. It has always been the subject of criticism – people criticise a club for one or two days, but on the third day someone puts down a boundary.

“To this end I say that the national team must be respected – everyone can say what they want but do not overdo it.

“At this time I head into the World Cup and mentally I cannot plan for a future with a club. Then, I have said that if I find an agreement with the national team then fine, otherwise that is it.

“The people who run the national team for the first time moved beyond the barrier of connection with the result, that is, they are proposing an extension for the CT regardless of the World Cup – it’s rewarding and makes me very proud.

“The technical project must be shared by everyone, because I will not be the only CT. I give my availability 100 per cent to technical development, but I never did anything alone in my life.”

Prandelli considered his work this week with the group of youngsters he called up for a training camp.

“There are positive results, they have enthusiastically taken part and already there is a good atmosphere.

“There has been a great deal of attention, we must about the future of the national team. We know that calendars are packed and the players have club commitments, but we have called up guys who have no commitments in the Cups, and we should give continuity to this aspect.

“If we have the opportunity to know them and let them develop, they can know what we are talking about later then.”
