Alessio Cerci claims breaking his Milan duck has given him confidence and they’ll “give our heart and soul for European qualification.”

The winger scored his first goal since arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid in January, netting in a 2-1 victory away to Palermo at the weekend.

“Goals are important for an attacking player like me. I had missed scoring and mentally it’s a good sign to carry on netting in the next few games,” Cerci told Milan Channel.

“A goal gives you confidence and self-belief, but is also positive for the team to bring in points, which is the main thing.

“I’ve been feeling more like myself for two weeks now and have been working better in training. The goal has allowed me to take a step forward psychologically too.

“I know what I can do and how much I can give. I can feel my leg is in good shape again. That’s important for a player like me whose strengths are dribbling and changes of pace. I am here to prove my work to the fans and everyone around Milan.”

Milan are in eighth place and only the top six in Serie A go into Europe.

“I think this team has all it needs to fight for the top spots and has great potential,” continued Cerci.

“There are nine games to go and we must try to do what is possible. These victories gave us confidence and the match against Sampdoria can bring an important result.

“There’s always going to be more tension when the results don’t come, but these two consecutive victories have really boosted morale.

“Coach Inzaghi wanted me last year too. I think from now on he’ll play me more often and I’ll repay him for that faith on the field.

“This team definitely has the potential to reach the Europa League. It’s a dream we hold within us, so we must believe, giving our heart and soul for European qualification. I believe and the team believes.”
