Sassuolo defender Francesco Acerbi has announced can return to action after chemotherapy. “I’m ready to come back.”
The 26-year-old was first diagnosed with testicular cancer in June during a routine medical, then in December he failed a doping test because of a hormone that showed the illness had returned.
“I am ready to come back,” announced Acerbi via his Facebook page. “Thank you to everyone for your support.
“Now comes the good moment, when I can win back everything I left behind. I am doing it for me and my family. From today, I change gear.
“I had many days to reflect on things and understand the people I want to go forward with and those who deserve my trust. I will cancel out the rest. Thank you all for your support.”
Acerbi continued to train during his course of chemotherapy.
