Lazio ultras boycott extended

Lazio’s Curva Nord ultras have announced they will boycott games for the rest of the season in protest at President Claudio Lotito.

They had already held several boycotts, abandoning the stands for Europa League and Serie A games.

The team and Coach Edy Reja appealed for a compromise to at least see out the campaign, but today the Curva Nord slammed the door with an announcement on RadioSei.

“It was a difficult and painful choice, but in the group we decided not to enter if we are even denied the right to bring in paper banners with simple questions.

“All of us on a personal level are deciding whether or not to step into the stadium. We urge others not to, but do not force anyone.

“We have been robbed of the right to protest in a civilised manner. This is the end of our season in the stadium, though we will return for May 12 to celebrate 40 years of the first Lazio Scudetto.”

The ultras will stand outside the Stadio Olimpico for tonight’s Serie A game with Milan, showing the banners that authorities banned them from bringing into the arena.

Under Italian rules, all fan choreography and banners must be given the all-clear by local police authorities.
