Granada are reportedly looking to sack Udinese-owned player Dani Benitez, after he allegedly tested positive for cocaine.

The 26-year-old, who has been on Udinese’s books since 2009 but spent that entire time on loan at Giampaolo Pozzo-owned Granada, apparently failed a doping test after February 16’s League match against Real Betis.

The 26-year-old, who has been on Udinese’s books since 2009 but spent that entire time on loan at Giampaolo Pozzo-owned Granada, apparently failed a doping test after February 16’s League match against Real Betis.

Whilst the Spanish outfit are yet to officially comment on the matter and await results of a B sample from anti-doping authorities to confirm the offence, they are understood to have sent the player home and contacted lawyers to discuss terminating his contract, with Udinese being kept in the loop.

Granada President Quique Pina commented yesterday evening that once the situation was clarified, action would be taken: “I cannot permit this sort of behaviour, so the player will be dismissed.”

AS report that Benitez risks a two-year ban from the sport.
