Atalanta general director Pierpaolo Marino has thanked the club’s fans for their support and applause despite yesterday’s 2-0 loss to Sassuolo.

La Dea were surprisingly beaten at home by the relegation strugglers in a result that brought an end to their six match winning streak.

“Whatever happens the season has been a success,” Marino told reporters. “Our standing in the table has not changed much and we need to keep looking ahead.

“We have broken our record of consecutive wins in Serie A and from here until the end of the season we can break a lot of others.

“Thank you to the fans who filled the stadium and who applauded us at the end. There is an incredible passion for this team."

Marino then praised the youth setup at the Bergamo side.

“We spend around €4m a year on it which is a lot of money, but you can see the results.

“Credit to Favini but also to everyone else who is involved.”
