Panini ignore World Cup potentials

Panini have unveiled their stickers for the World Cup in Brazil, but Italy are without Mattia Destro, Antonio Cassano and other potentials.

The team chosen by the legendary company is seen as a clue to the choices Cesare Prandelli will eventually make for the tournament.

There are only 17 figures, whereas the final squad going to Brazil will be made up of 23 players.

Giuseppe Rossi is included despite fears he won’t recover in time from a knee ligament injury, while Emanuele Giaccherini and Alberto Gilardino are also present.

Left out are potential candidates for the competition including Destro, Francesco Totti, Cassano and Verona veteran Luca Toni.

Panini Italy World Cup squad: Buffon; Abate, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, De Sciglio; De Rossi, Giaccherini, Marchisio, Montolivo, Pirlo, Thiago Motta; Balotelli, Candreva, Cerci, Gilardino, G Rossi
