Aurelio De Laurentiis is expected to not only exercise the option to keep Rafa Benitez for next year, but look to hand him a further contract extension.
The Spaniard’s first season at the San Paolo is set to end with a third place finish in Serie A, but the club President is reported by Il Mattino today as more than ready to trigger a believed option in the Coach’s contract to keep him in place for the second year of his contract.
Beyond exercising that reputed option by a deadline of May 15, De Laurentiis is also speculated as ready to sit down with Benitez’s representative to work out a new contract, to tie the 54-year-old to the club beyond the June 2015 expiry of his current deal.
