Rafa Benitez has rubbished suggestions that Napoli will consider bids for Marek Hamsik in the summer.
Reports this week claimed that the Partenopei could be willing to sell the forward for the right fee.
However, ahead of their game with Udinese this weekend, the Coach has claimed that the Slovakia international is a fundamental part of his squad.
“Marek is an important player for us,” he told a Press conference. “He is vital to this club. There is no doubt about that.
“We are delighted with how he has played this season – and I am the first to say that he’s been fundamental to this club.
“We’re not thinking about the market, and we certainly won’t be considering offers for Hamsik. He’s key to us.”
The Spaniard then refused to talk about proposed moves for Javier Mascherano and Martin Skrtel.
“I’m sorry, but you know that I can’t say anything about the transfer market at the moment.
“All I want to do is think about the next game. The Udinese match is crucial for us if we want to finish in third place.”
That tactician then went on to remark on the match at the Friuli tomorrow afternoon.
“At the end of the day, you have to play against every team twice, and try to make the right decisions for each game.
“We want to be competitive in every game. And I think we have players that can win any game on their day.
“We know tomorrow’s going to be a tough game. They have some quality players as well and will be extremely motivated coming up against us.
“I just want to win this match. We’ll look at the Coppa final when it arrives, but right now, I want to beat Udinese.”
Benitez concluded by responding to the news that Gonzalo Higuain will miss the match through injury.
“Higuain is out. It is too early for him and he will not be available. But it’s not a serious problem, so I’m sure he’ll be available again next week.”
