Inter President Erick Thohir says his recent visit to Real Madrid taught him a lot about what the club should be aspiring to do.

In an interview with Inter Channel, the Indonesian also gave his thoughts on the upcoming derby with Milan and reflected on the six months since he assumed control at San Siro.

“My Madrid experience? When I was there I had the chance to learn,” Thohir said.

“Everyone needs to be looking to improve their knowledge and everyone is different.

“Being in Madrid gave me the opportunity to look at their coaching methods, which are fantastic.

“Obviously at the moment we can’t copy what they have done 100 per cent, because we are in a period of transition.

“But we will definitely improve the Pinetina. Improving the structure will be good for the players, Valdebebas is the model.

“I have known about the derby for a long time but as President there are different emotions and pressures you feel.

“We won the match earlier in the season but I think the return match will be very difficult.

“We want to be sure of returning to play in Europe, achieving that would be a good thing for our history and would allow our young players to play more often.

“For me it’s exciting to go into tournaments to play matches against teams like Real Madrid and Manchester United.

“I think the Coach and the players will do well in the derby and they will try to get the three points.

“I am not here for personal prestige, just to work. Now people know me better compared to when I first arrived.

“I like the good food here in Italy and everyone looks at me saying ‘That’s the Inter President!’

“I like it when people come up to me to say hello. You lose a bit of privacy but it’s a very nice feeling.

“Inter is a great brand and I am representing it, Inter is the most important thing. It’s nice that we at the club have the chance to contribute to the club’s great history.

“Whichever players arrive, Inter will always be bigger than they are.

“I am looking to the future with optimism, there are a lot of things to do in the next two years.”
