Federico Fernandez said he and Gonzalo Higuain “will aim to convince Javier Mascherano to join Napoli.”
The Barcelona midfielder has long been linked with a move to the Partenopei, where he’d reunite with ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
“We hope Argentina do well in Brazil, as there is a lot of competition, but we want to be protagonists,” defender Fernandez told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Higuain scores and helps the team to score too. He is a fundamental player and can make the difference for us, always.
“Mascherano? When the season ends we can talk. Higuain and I will show him some photos of Naples and aim to convince him to join Napoli. We’ll see in August if it’s possible to do anything.”
Meanwhile, Fernandez is looking ahead to this weekend’s Serie A encounter with Inter and the Coppa Italia Final against Fiorentina on May 3.
“This is an important game for us to reach the Coppa Italia Final on a high. I didn’t have much playing time under Walter Mazzarri at Napoli, then I went to Getafe and when I returned Benitez put faith in me.
“I am giving my best now with the chance to further improve.”
