“Giuseppe Rossi isn’t available yet and I doubt we’ll see Mario Gomez again this season,” warned Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Montella.
The tactician knows their recovery from knee injuries is not only important for the Viola’s campaign, which includes the Coppa Italia Final against Napoli on May 3, but also the World Cup.
“Rossi is not available to be called up, because he’s still not in the right physical condition, even if he has recovered from the injury,” said Montella in today’s Press conference.
“As for Gomez, I fear we won’t see him again this season. That is my sensation, seeing as he’s not even training with the team yet. It’s a shame, as we hardly had him at our disposal. Perhaps there have been a few too many opinions expressed on his injuries.
“Will Rossi be available for the Coppa Italia Final? I hope so. That is the hope of a Coach, but we’ll have to see if his fitness levels remain like this or improve.”
Fiorentina face struggling Bologna on Saturday, a game that kicks off at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT). Click here for a match preview.
“I have no particular fears about this game. It is a test of the team’s psychological strength, as it can also tell me what I can expect from them in future.
“Bologna are highly motivated, so we have to match them in that sense. That’s what I want to see from my players. Fourth place means a lot to us, because we deserved it over the campaign despite challenging some very big clubs.
“I hope that the club is eager to improve the team in future, and I think there’s only one way to achieve that...”
