The former Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”7″>Sampdoria, Roma, Napoli, Ascoli and Perugia Coach died today just three weeks shy of his 83rd birthday.

“I am truly pained,” wrote Mihajlovic on the official Sampdoria website, the club where they won the Scudetto together in 1991.

“He was like a father to me. He was a teacher, an example in football and in life, one of those people you never want to leave and when they do go there is a void that cannot be filled.

“I will certainly never forget him: together we had so many experiences I will take with me forever. Vujadin will remain a unique person, inimitable, a legend of Serbian football and a hero for every Sampdoria fan.

“I will go to Serbia tomorrow to pay my respects. He deserves this final salute, being a great man of sport and of life.”

Boskov also gave teenager Totti his Serie A debut and the Roma captain wrote a message on his personal website.

“Today another important member of the football family has died. Vujadin Boskov was a great man, capable, winning and blessed with an acute and intelligent sense of humour.

“I still remember the day of my debut with him on our bench… how could I forget? Thank you Mister for giving me that chance, as unique as you were.

“Now I am sure from the Heavens your irony and smile will continue to watch football with the eye of an immense master.”
