The incident occurred during last night’s Liga game when a Villarreal supporter threw a banana at Barcelona player Dani Alves.
He responded by picking it up off the pitch, taking a bite and throwing it to one side, making a mockery of the racist abuse.
Today there have been copycat photographs all over social media, including Milan striker Balotelli, Barcelona’s Neymar and Italy Coach Prandelli.
In Prandelli’s case, he was pictured eating the banana alongside Italy Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
