“Every day I feel a little better. I’m working hard in the gym and the knee is doing well,” Strootman told Roma Channel.

“My teammates were happy to see me and said they’ll wait for me. I thank everyone for their support, including the medical staff, the Coach and all the Roma fans.”

The Giallorossi missed out on the Serie A title, but have secured automatic qualification into the Champions League.

“Finally I’ll get to play in this competition. I am happy for the club and for our fans. Will we be ready for the Scudetto next year? I think so, yes.

“The best moments of the season for me were the 10 consecutive victories and the goal against Napoli, plus I won my derby against Lazio.”
