Javier Zanetti feels “the love of my people” on the night of his final Serie A game at San Siro for Inter.
The captain is due to retire at the end of the season, so tonight’s encounter with Lazio will be his last competitive appearance at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
“I saw a banner that read: ‘Last day as a player, the first as a legend.’ How do I feel? Huge emotions, it’s pointless even trying to describe what is happening inside of me,” he told Inter Channel.
“I feel the love of my people and received shows of respect from everyone this week. I hope that I’ll be able to share that joy with everyone.
“First there is Lazio, with the Europa League up for grabs, then we’ll run to celebrate.”
The 40-year-old revealed via Facebook that his armband for tonight will be yellow with the message ‘Zanetti 4 Ever.’
It will also have crammed on the names of all his Nerazzurri teammates during these 19 years at the club.
