Oscar Tabarez has today named Uruguay’s provisional World Cup squad of 25 players, including five Serie A names.

Juventus defender Martin Caceres, Parma midfielder Walter Gargano, Bologna midfielder Diego Perez, Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez and Palermo forward Abel Hernandez have all made the initial selection, which by June 2 will be cut by two ahead of going out to the tournament in Brazil.

Tabarez has also listed a further three players in Andres Scotti, Alvaro Fernandez and Gonzalo Castro, who will not train with the squad, but will be on stand-by in case of injury to any of the 25 now named.

Semi-finalists four years ago, Uruguay will face Costa Rica, England and Italy in Group D of this year’s edition of the competition.
