Spain Coach Vicente Del Bosque is sorry he did not select Napoli’s Jose Callejon in his provisional World Cup squad.

The uncapped 27-year-old has enjoyed a good first season in Serie A but it has not been enough to force his way into the reckoning for a place in Brazil.

Speaking at a publicity event today, the tactician expressed his regret that he had to leave out certain players who deserved much more.

“Do you really think it hasn’t upset me to have had to leave people out?” Del Bosque said. “It’s impossible to put everyone on the list who deserves it.

“I won’t give explanations about the players I didn’t include, that would be a mistake.

“Callejon is one of the players we talked about. We always keep up to date with what he is doing, especially as Rafa Benitez is there. For us it is a daily thing.”
