Francesco Guidolin hailed Antonio Di Natale, saluted Udinese fans and said “everything will be clearer” next week.

The Coach has repeatedly hinted he could retire from management in order to become a director at the Stadio Friuli.

He embraced captain Di Natale after the walk round the pitch to salute the fans following a 3-3 draw with Sampdoria.

“I have great affection for Di Natale and for the umpteenth time compliment him on what he has managed to do,” Guidolin told Sky Sport Italia.

“I had many important players, but Toto in my view is world class. He deserves to have his shoes shined! It was entirely improvised and more fun for it.

“Just look at the way he takes that free kick. It might seem easy, but he puts his foot in a certain way.”

Udinese went round the Stadio Friuli after the final whistle to wave to the fans, throwing their jerseys and even shorts into the stands.

“In previous years we went round the pitch to celebrate Europa League or Champions League qualification. This time we didn’t, but I still felt it right to salute the fans.

“In four years we have amassed an average of 60 points per season, so I am satisfied with what we have achieved.

“We too had become accustomed to playing in Europe every year, but we can turn that into a positive and plan the season with more calm.

“The strategy of this club is to take young players, help them develop and flourish. I realised over the years it is better to begin again with a new player rather than try to hold them back when they receive offers from bigger clubs.

“I know that if they stay despite those proposals, they won’t be able to give you the same performances. Udinese are a constant process of renewal.”

Guidolin also walked round with the squad and threw his shirt to the crowd, so was this a sign of farewell?

“I don’t go under the curva during the campaign, as I like leaving the spotlight to my players. As this was the last game of the season, I felt the urge to salute the fans.”

Guidolin was asked specifically if he will be the Udinese Coach next season.

“We will meet over the next week and discuss things with the directors. Everything will be clearer then.

“Spartak Moscow? This is the first I’ve heard of it!”
