It’s reported the Italian Super Cup between Juventus and Napoli will be hosted by Qatar in December.
The tournament usually kicks off the Italian campaign, taking place between Scudetto winners Juventus and Coppa Italia holders Napoli.
In recent years it has been held in Beijing, but that seems implausible this time because of the World Cup and Napoli’s Champions League preliminary round commitments.
After the crowd trouble in the Coppa Italia Final, Rome’s Stadio Olimpico is also now ruled out as a neutral venue.
According to newspaper Il Mattino, a new plan is emerging for the Italian Super Cup to be played in Qatar in December.
The most likely date is December 23, bringing in huge sponsorship deals and acting as a warm-up for Qatar’s 2022 World Cup campaign.
FIFA have said that edition of the World Cup will be moved from the summer to winter because of the extreme temperatures.
