England forward Danny Welbeck is hoping his side can banish the ghosts of Euro 2012 by beating Italy at the World Cup.

The Three Lions lost on penalties in Kiev after the quarter-final tie between the teams two years ago ended goalless.

Speaking at a Press conference today, the Manchester United man said he now wants Roy Hodgson’s team to make amends.

Speaking at a Press conference today, the Manchester United man said he now wants Roy Hodgson’s team to make amends.

He was also quizzed about the imminent arrival at Old Trafford of new manager, Dutchman Louis Van Gaal.

“We want to win this time against Italy,” Welbeck told the reporters gathered. “But it will be the same for any match we play against any opponent.

“I heard the news about Van Gaal’s appointment and I’m happy. He is a great man and a great manager.

“Looking at his CV shows you he has managed some big clubs.”
